This house is one of the excellent "Backdoor Lane" houses from the user known as 'plasticbox' on the website Mod The Sims. This particular one is model 62, available here. This is the only type of custom content I play with, apart from a 'batbox' that helps with the occasional glitch in the game. Custom content was always part of the plan for the Sims 2, so the process to download and install it is pretty straightforward, even though the EA website for it is long gone. Some people really enjoy creating new clothing, furniture, and even people for their games.
These five-apartment houses could be converted to an apartment block, but then I would have to play each family individually. Part of the fun for me is having the seniors live together. I give them their own bedrooms, which I can do by choosing a person, then clicking on the door to the bedroom, choosing "Lock...", then "Allow Me Only".
To collect money to buy a university for the town, I move childless Sims here when they are a day or two away from death. By the rules of the Build-A-City Challenge, I need a million Simoleans to build a university. I'm about three generations into the challenge and halfway there.
