The Udy family are recent immigrants to Strangetown, buying a house right at the city limits. A fire had gutted the kitchen and there are rumours of deaths in the house, but Ulric, his daughters Ulrike and Ursule, and granddaughter Unity are not fussy about that if it means they can afford their own home.
Ursule has fallen in love with a neighbour she met at the grocery store, Blair Nott. She's not sure why he feels the need to go to the lengths of full body paint for every one of his college's ball games, but he is otherwise sweet. They're pretty strapped for cash after having to install a new kitchen and buy furniture, so Ursule was pleasantly surprised to find that Blair brought a nice infusion of Simoleons into the relationship. He has a steady job with the military, but he has always wanted to work in Oceanography. Ursule is encouraging him to follow his dream.
I don't have a lot of U names in my family tree, so I mashed together the German Ulric with the English last name Udy for the head of this family. I have the wonderfully named Ulrike Alwine Auguste Wilhelmine Dinz, born 1860 in Germany, emigrated to Wisconsin; several women named Ursule from Quebec; and a couple of girls named Unity, which seemed like the kind of name optimistic immigrants might choose.
This family is going to be good for creating new households, since the two daughters might move out once they have partners and children - there are five in the house already, and Ulrike and Ursule are both newly expecting.
At this point in the challenge I'm playing, the Military career is still locked. The 'rule' is that anyone who becomes a playable Sim who has a locked career has to give it up. I sometimes pretend to temporarily forget that rule and wait until their new career shows up in the computer - although it's called a Challenge, it's really just a style of play, so it's not cheating.
