- struggles in childhood labeled as awkwardness or anxiety (or shyness?)
- high rates of sexual abuse
- tend to be experts in camouflaging - pretending not to have autism
- there is no test for camouflaging
Then this article talks about sensory processing disorder (SPD).
- sensory differences were part of the first descriptions of autism, but then were dropped
- one study found atypical white matter in the brain of boys with SPD
- children need help with their with their sensory differences - whether they are overwhelmed by their senses or find it hard to connect with them
