TV: Brooklyn Nine-Nine

If you can get past watching a cop show, this one is highly recommended.  It's hilarious but also sweet.  The diversity is impressive... the sergeant is black, and the new captain is black and openly gay.  They have two Latina detectives, and although both might start off as stereotypes, they are completely different types and the characters are well written.  If you like comedian Chelsea Peretti, that will be an additional draw for you.  I'm not a huge Andy Samberg fan, but the director and writers do a good job of making him sympathetic and likable over the run of the show.

Oddly, although there are several strong female characters, the pilot does not pass the Bechdel test.  Early in the second episode there is a conversation where Amy, Rosa, and Gina discuss a case.

Scores and comments for:
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Gore/Violence: Low
Passes Bechdel test: Yes (but not until the second episode).
Diversity: high
HAES-friendly:  No; fat joke within the first few minutes.

As of July 2019, viewable on Netflix Canada.
